Modern Soul, Boogie, Disco and House Part 1!

Big, bold modern soul/boogie/disco update this week, with an extra sprinkling of house. Too many nice titles to mention really, but I'll give it a go. Modern LPs include stone gems as Village Choir - Street opera with a blues waltz, Brief Encounter - We want to play, Magnetic Touch on Almeria, Ted Coleman Band and Sandra Lord's rare "Midnite magic" album. Disco & house 12"s come in numbers as well, with personal picks in George Duke - I want you for myself, Hardlife on Underground Resistance, Sylvester's all-time disco classic "Over and over", Carly Simon's "Tranquillo and 5 star soul/boogie from Bridge in the shape of "Baby don't hold your love back".

Also a few 45s, among them two step soul perfection from Rinlew Allstars ("Didn't want a lot, did ya") and rare Swedish boogie from Esquille.

Afro, Latin, Brazil & Rock

This week will be a bit different from last week's Soul & Funk update, with a Rock, Latin, Brazil and Afro theme. Hard to top the amount and the peaks of the Soul & Funk special, but we have a lot of interesting and fresh titles for all wallets.
The Latin department includes King Nando, The Harvey Averne Dozen and El Party con la Crema, and one of the Brazilian highlights has to be the Marcos Resende & Index LP.
The Rock section gets strengthened by heavyweight items like Prof. Wolfff and Subject ESQ, as well as British rockers The Sorrows and the less dance-able The Madcap Laughs LP by Syd Barrett.

Next week brings us into Free Jazz & Spiritual Jazz territory, and the week after that goes in more uptempo direction with Modern Soul, Disco & House.

Weekly update 7/11 - Soul & Funk

Many have been waiting for a heavy Soul & Funk update, and we like to think that this week's update lives up to the expectations. Terrific stuff all across the board, from sweet soul like The Brief Encounter (including "Where will I go") and The Four Mints, to funkier pieces like Baby Huey and Steam Heat, trying not to forget Ron Henderson & The Choice of Colour, Rayfield Reid, Joey Gilmore, a sealed OG of Alice Clark and The Chapparrals - Shake your head. Those of you who like it mellow & midtempo need to check the Tommy Tate album with "I can't do enough for you", truly incredible stuff.

Next week will be a good week for fans of Rock, Afro and/or Latin!

Euro jazz + hip hop!

Back on track again for a European jazz update, plus a small but nice batch of hip hop LPs. Many titles deserve mentioning, but special honors must go to Bertil Strandberg's stunning "Cirrus" (top 3 Swedish jazz albums ever?) and Clarke Boland Sextett's "Music for the small hours" on original German press.

Hip hop fans can pick from classic albums by Gang Starr ("Moment of truth"), Eric B & Rakim ("Paid in full"), Dr Dre, Group Home, Jeru The Damaja, Ghostface Killah and Main Source, all on original US issue.

Next week sees a high-octane soul & funk update, expect some terrific 60s & 70s stuff, both LPs and 45s. We have been buying heavily over the past couple of months, and the piles of records waiting to be put out for sale are truly mouth-watering, both for quality and quantity. In other words, we look forward to finishing 2014 in fine style!

Rock, prog and reggae

After some weeks of jazz, soul, funk and disco we today return to rock territory boasting top stuff like The Gods "To Samuel A Son", Rainbow Ffolly "Sallies Fforth", Twentieth Century Zoo "Thunder On A Clear Day". And oh, we all liked the Parish Hall LP a lot more than our rare groove-selves maybe wants to admit.

No rock update without some Swedish rock and prog and this time we have classics like Träd, Gräs & Stenar, Panta Rei, Kvartetten Som Sprägde plus the obscure Järngustav (first time for us).

We also have a bunch of reggae, for example some nice FAB and Blue Beat 7"s, Ossie Hibbert's "Satisfaction In Dub", Freddie McKay's "Lonely Man" and Junior Delgado's "Taste Of The Young Heart".
