Soul!!!

Hello again,

This week sees one of our best soul updates in recent times, in due time for the Stockholm Soul weekender which kicks off today and goes on through Sunday. Tons of tremendous titles for your consideration, mostly 60s/early 70s soul, but also some modern soul and a few funkier things.

Ok, so where do we start? All-time favorite albums as "Introducing the Whatnauts" (sealed OG!!), a double dose of O.V. Wright ("8 men" and "A nickle & a nail"), Turbo-related rarities from Willie & West and Willie & The Mighty Magificents, Bobby Taylor's majestic "Taylor made soul", Sam Baker's tough "Sometimes you have to cry", tve even tougher first issue of Kelly Brothers' "Sweet sweet soul" and classic LPs from Bobby Patterson, James Carr and Tommie Young.

Over to the 45 then: Very rare sweet soul from Soul Projections (big favorite for the Family Circle crew and Karl Marthon) and Rappers "I've tried" (first issue, NOT the repress), mega crossover from Roger Hatcher ("Sweetest girl in the world"), Channel 3 and Sensational Little Doc, classic Detroit from Brothers of Soul, deep crossover heaven from Wes Lewis and the super obscure Snapper

So far we haven't even mentioned top tiles as the Class Set album, Rayford Tucker's rare 45 on Sandpiper and Helen Shapiro's northern biggie "Stop", so you know that there's a plethora of good stuff to choose from.

Check the pictures below for examples of the rarer stuff or see all of this week's new arrivals in our New In Stock-section.

Rare Groove

Good morning/afternoon/evening everybody,

Spring finally hit Stockholm, meaning that the shop/office goes into heat overdrive! Not about to let that stop us from lacing the shop with excellent records though, we have kept buying plenty of great stock in all styles and price ranges.

This week's theme is Rare Groove. From heavy-hitters as Roger And The Human Body (very rare Roger Troutman release), Rayfield Reid's killer soul/funk set "Treat you right", Labi Siffre's "Remember my song"and Eliminators' perennial "Loving explosion" to a sealed US original of Sir Joe Quarterman & Free Soul, Kool & The Gang's first and best album and a double serving of Mombasa.

Next week sees a big 60s and 70s soul special (plus some blues and R&B) including a large amount of 45s.

Check the pictures below for examples of the rarer stuff or see all of this week's new arrivals in our New In Stock-section.

Latin, Brazil, Afro, Reggae

We're almost ready to start putting our dollar bins, euro bins, "10 kr-backar" (or whatever you like to call them) out on the sidewalk, but before that we have to heat them up with some suitable grooves in the Afro, Latin, Brazil and Reggae-departments. These will be inside the store (and the website) and not on the streets though...

A bunch of nice Reggae 7"s as by Johnnie Osbourne, Freddie McGregor, Prince Buster and Donovan Carless as well as LP classics like The Congos "Heart of the Congos", "Kings Bread" by Dr. Alimantado, Mystic Eyes "Mysterious" and more.

The Afro section gets additions from Oscar Sulley's jazzy "Jemelatu" and Uhuru Dance Band of Ghana, whereas the Latin and Brazil stock increases with Ricardo Marrero, Har-You Percussion Group, Joe Bataan, Edu Lobo, Gerson King Combo, Daybreak, Kako, Claudette Soares and more.

Hip Hop, Funk Jazz & Breaks

Only a month since last Hip Hop, Funk Jazz & Breaks update, but we managed to get some more nice titles. Many of the kind we don't see everyday, and the timing is nice since many Hip Hop heads might be in town for the Black Milk show at Fasching today (http://www.fasching.se/evenemang/black-milk-2015), and maybe next week's show at Debaser with Onyx + Swedish underground favorites Pro & Ak (http://debaser.se/kalender/15698/).

Fresh indie LPs like Cunninlynguists "Will rap for food", Non Phixion, Atmosphere and Jedi Mind Tricks plus real classics like Mos Def & Talib Kweli "Black Star", "The Main Ingredient" by Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Nas' "Illmatic" and the very much wanted "Ready to die" by Notorious B.I.G.

The Swedish section gets touched by "I skuggan av betongen" by legendary Latin Kings, a couple from the MBMA / Mobbade Barn Med Automatvapen crew and associates like Organism 12 & T.R, Loop Troop (of course) and a sweet 12" from Gothenburg rapper Gubb.
We also have one copy of Rikard Skizz Bizzi's most recent LP "Ur funktion". That one was one of the fastest selling new releases of last year, and people seem to hang on to them, so here's a rare opportunity to grab it if you missed out. Stay tuned for his upcoming LP later this year...

For the Funk Jazz crowd we have heavy hitters like Les DeMerle's "Transfusion", jazz / rock freakout "Seeking other beauty"by Bayete Umbra Zindiko and "Soul of the Bible" by Cannonball Adderley, and more.

European Jazz

First of May, the International Worker's Day - you might have expected a big Swedish prog update, but it should work just as well with a fine European Jazz update.

EPs, with Jazz greats like Don Rendell Quintet, Joe Harriott Quintet, Zoot Sims and the Freund - Mangelsdorff Sextett, and some very nice Jazz & Fusion LPs if we may say so ourselves.

With Nils Lindberg's excellent Trisection LP, a couple by the ever so popular Jan Johansson, Sabu Martinez (both "Afro Temple" and "Aurora Borealis"), Pop Workshop and Archimedes Badkar covering some of the Swedish bases, topped by one of the most wanted Swedish Jazz LPs at the moment - "Cirrus", by Bertil Strandberg.
Other European countries and the Fusion section is represented by the likes of Michel Sardaby, Jef Gilson, Dusko Goykovich, Abrax, Gialma 3, Bruno Spoerri, the Albert Mangelsdorff Quintet's "One Tension" and the elusive "Got The Feelin'" with the Dave Pike Set.

The store is open as usual on Fridays, 12-18, so when you're done protesting - stop by and pick up your goods!
