Big jazz collection just bought!

We recently bought parts of a huge jazz collection in the US with loads of great stuff in all price ranges and all genres - from 50s and 60s jazz on labels like Blue Note, Impulse, Savoy etc. to free jazz and 70s private press jazz - so there will be something for everyone! Not only US stuff but a healthy dose of European jazz as well. These will be added the coming weeks starting this Friday (September 6) with a couple of hundred titles so keep watching our new arrivals section (www.recordmania.se/news.php) not to miss anything!

Huge collection just bought.

We have just bought a massive collection from Finland covering soul, funk, jazz, hip hop, club music and some occasional disco and reggae records. We will start putting these out this Friday but the nearest weeks will be very exciting. Some of the less pricy stuff we will put out in sale sections that will not be online. I think pretty much all Black jazz titles, many classic rare groove titles like JB's, Maceo, Fela Kuti and much more.

Interview by Franck from Heavenly sweetness blog plus reduced prices at 500 records.

Massive collection just bought.

Last week we bought a great collection from an old customer/friend of us. 4500 albums (no 45's or 12's unfortunaly) primarly soul, funk, rare grooves, jazz (late 60's and 70's jazz). Lots of European jazz and groove oriented records like many titles on Horo, Fontana, Saba, MPS, JAPO, ECM, Love plus US labels like Black Jazz, Strata-East, Nimbus, Muse which in some parts are more or less complete catalogues. There's not a lot of 50's jazz but there's some fine originals on Blue Note and Prestige. It's not the biggest collection we have bought but maybe the best. There are many records that we haven't had for ten years or more plus many new obscure records that we never have had before.

As our backroom in the store already before these 4500 records were crammed with thousands of records that's in que for us to stock at the website, we now have rented a lockup to have enough space to move in the office. Some, but far from all, of the more exclusive records will be added to our next

"Big Update 8 June"

We will then stock between 400-700 records depending how much we get done until then. It will be great stuff on all sections (apart from house/nu jazz I'm afraid) but maybe strongest on soul and funk albums and European jazz. As I think with all our "Big Updates" it's very exciting for us to be able to offer that many rare, indemand records at the same time. Please note that this "Big update" is done on a Wednesday and that you have to visit the website to see the added records (unlike our popular weekly mails when we mail our customers what records that's added).

To be notified about the "Big Update" sign up here unless you already are included in the mailinglist.

Big update + weekly mails.

You can also be notified immediatly when a record is for sale if you add that record as a want via the website. I'm afraid we can't service wantlists the old school way via mail as we simply have no time over. There's no buying obligations but the record will not be reserved for you, so you still have to order it via the shopping cart if you want it.

Automated wantlist

This is the best way to be notified when an indemand  record is for sale as many records sell out fast and some often sells within minutes to those that have left wants via the website.

For the first time we will also be open the whole summer during normal opening days.

As always quality trades and collections bought.

Take care, Lars & crew.

10% Sale 25-31/12 & Big update coming up 5/1.

10 % SALE 25-31/12.

We will have a 10% end of the year sale from 25-31 December at the whole stock. All orders placed and paid for within that time gets 10% discount either via the shop is as a discount when you have placed the order. That's both for the shop and for the mailorder. However not if you pay with paypal but only bank card for the mailorder. It's not 10% discount for orders placed before 25/12 and not picked up and we will also not give discount if you place orders for picking up in store but picking it up in January. Strictly ordered and paid for within 25-31/12!

BIG UPDATE 5/1

We will have another "Big update" Wednesday 5th of January when we will add roughly 550-650 rare records. We have the feeling now that this will be our best "Big update" ever. We will add plenty of indemand titles including soul funk rarities, Blue Note biggies (in some cases in fantastic EX/EX or even NM/NM shape), fine latin stuff, dancehall & reggae classics, private pressed free jazz obscurities, some progg/rock rarities and much more. This will be an update that you shouldn't miss if you're into exclusive records.

A big Merry Christmas to all customers and we at Record Mania say thank you to all past and future customers. I include a youtube link to a great Impressions tune which I love. For some reason I think Impressions is the ultimate Christmas music.

Shop and website is closed 4th of June to 4th of August.

It's time for us to take a vacation. See some football and relax a bit. Last day the shop is open is Saturday 3th of July and we open again 4th of August. You can place orders at the webiste but they will not be handled until we're back 4th of August. We will also not add any new records to the site until 4th of August. Have a nice summer!

Packing packages

I sometimes get the question from shop visitors if we ship records as well. For me this feels a bit absurd as I see Record Mania as a mail order company that has a small store. About 90% of what we sell is sold via mailorder primarily via our website. When I started doing mailorder in the mid 90´s I shipped almost entirely to big cities like London, Tokyo, Berlin, Osaka etc. Now with the help of internet it certainly has grown and spread to everything from small cities in Sweden to more or less all parts of the world. In this big pile of records that we shipped last week for example was one package to Greenland and also Alaska, India, Hong kong, Columbia, Kazakstan, Belarus and other for me exotic places which I never thought wanted some black music plastic in their life. I'm just waiting for that first order from Africa! Lars Larsson.

Website up again

The server problem we had that caused our website to go down for most of today is now fixed. It's possible that some e-mails got lost during the time the webiste and our database was down. So in case you're not getting an answer the next couple of days, please contact us again! I'm sorry for any problems this has caused our customers, but this was a major problem that affected many Swedish websites. Our server provider had a cable cut off by accident. I include a link (in Swedish) from our server provider.

Problem with the server

Today 100329 we're having problem with our server so website is down temporarily. Hopefully it will be up tomorrow. Lars Larsson.

Ebay too big for their own good.

I got message from ebay about their new fee's regarding our ebay listings. To quote:

"Just a quick reminder that our lowest Insertion Fees ever are almost here! Starting March 30, the upfront cost of selling on eBay is about to be dramatically reduced".

It looks like good news doesn't it? Just like last time I got an optimistic email from ebay regarding reduced fee's they reduce one fee and raise all the others. Now with the new fee's it's roughly 2 % higher than before which already was incredible expensive. We have same stock at our ebay store and at our website but at ebay we have to add 18% plus that we include the shipping cost so it makes it much more expensive at our ebay store. For the best deal please buy from our website and you and I both save some money. Since the website is linked with our ebaystore it goes away within seconds if anyone buys so everything that's available to buy is available at both sites. I'm looking forward to when ebay get's some competion as they obviously think that they can raise their fee's all the time and keep all the sellers.

At the positive side I must thank all customers for the great response to our last "Big update". We had our second best selling day ever which feels great. Thank you, Lars Larsson.
