Swedish Jazz and more!

This week we focus on Swedish Jazz with over 250 Swedish jazz records added ranging from cheapies on labels as Dragon and Caprice to big rarities as Bertil Strandberg "Cirrus", Eje Thelin "Live At The German Jazz Festival" and a couple of Bengt Nordströms. Please check below for more examples and recommendations among the Swedish jazz records added this week.

For those of you who are not into Swedish jazz there's another 200 newly-listed records in all genres, among the rarer stuff you can find WQBC, Artistics' debut album, Barrett Strong and a couple of FMPs.

BIG UPDATE 26/9! On Wednesday we will be having another of our Big Updates where we add the rarest, most indemand and expensive records that we've collected during the latest months. This time we have about 350 records saved which will be listed on Wednesday. We will send out a "Big Update" e-mail when all records are added, but there will be no list (as in the Weekly Update e-mail) so you have to browse the site. Since most of the records this day are in the higher price range a good idea is to sort in descending price when you browse the sections.

Have a nice weekend! / The Record Mania Crew

Sealed copy of very rare modern soul/boogie LP from 1985!

Rare debut from 1967, really strong album which comes well recommended.

Killer modern soul.

Killer disco groove on a pretty rare Salsoul 12".

All star free jazz with Schlippenbach, Braxton, Mangelsdorff, Brötzmann and more.

Lovely soul pearl!

Rare early soul, US mono original

Duo free jazz on FMP, from 1976.

BÖRJE FREDRIKSSON

One of the finest Swedish tenorists ever that despite his short career was very influential on the Swedish Jazz scene. Due to his much too early death in 1968 his output is small but most of his stuff is brilliant. Unfortunately we don't have his debut "Intervall" for the update today but his self-titled album and the soundtrack LP below are fine showcases for Fredriksson's playing and writing.

EJE THELIN

Brilliant trombonist born in 1938 with a diverse output from the straighter jazz sounds of his first two superb records "So Far" and "At The German Jazz Festival" via free jazz as "Acoustic Space" to the modern, progressive sounds of Eje Thelin Group.

JAN JOHANSSON

One of the most publicly known and succesful jazz musicians in Sweden, probably most famous domestically for his interpretations of Swedish folk music.

MONICA ZETTERLUND

One of the finest jazz vocalists ever that simply doesn't need further introduction. Her "Waltz For Debby" and "Chicken Feathers" are both outstanding and must-haves.

SWEDISH JAZZ

Seldom seen LP from 1960 in unusually clean shape.

Not a rare one but the whole album is quality jazz, especially "Intakt" (which was first recorded on Bertil Strandberg's fantastic "Cirrus"). Recommended cheapie.

Very, very hard to find EP on the same label as Lars Lystedt's "Fanfar".

Rare indemander featuring "Beatmaker" and "You Never Come Closer".

Another rarity from the Swe Disc-label which also brought us Berndt Egerbladh's "Schizo" and Lars Lystedt's "Jazz Under The Midnight Sun".

Rising demand for this fantastic album with Staffan Abeléens Kvintett and Radiojazzgruppen. Check the soundtrack LP "Oj Oj Oj" (also listed this week) for more of Färnlöf's fine composing and playing.

His best and least seen LP from 1967.  Featuring Christer Boustedt, Otto Donner and Dave Liebman.

Beautiful copy of this classic album!

Ultra rare album from 1960 with Lars Gullin, Rolf Billberg and Nils Lindberg.

SPIRITUAL AND MODAL SOUNDS FROM SWEDEN

Great meditative and spiritual sounds, also check his much rarer album "Musik".

The finest modern jazz LP from Sweden ever? Mindblowing stuff on this very rare and indemand LP from 1973. Also check the Communication-album which includes a great alternate take of "Cirrus".

Obscure spiritual/free jazz album with a monster version of Grachan Moncur IIIs "New Africa"!

Underrated small label release with some fine modal/spiritual parts featuring Tommy Koverhult and Ivan Oscarsson.

SWEDISH FREE JAZZ

Big free jazz rarity on the legendary Bird Notes label.

More ultra rare solo saxophone stuff from Frippe, pressed in 15-40 copies!

Big ensemble free jazz, featuring top players as as Bernt Rosengren, Björn Alke and Tommy Koverhult.

Rare free/improvisational sounds from 1975.

Tough, progressive jazz with Gilbert Holmström!

SWEDISH FUSION

Strong fusion album with a standout in the wonderful, melancholic vocal folk/jazz tune "Autumn Song".

Hard to find small label release, awesome percussion fusion on "Sambamahdu".

"Nina" tough latin/fusion, "Snusa" deep prog tune.
