60s & 70s Soul plus Blues!

Morning all,

Lots of great 60s/70s soul going out today, plus more than a touch of the blues. Must-mention LPs include the sole album from the Thompsons, which is so highly recommended if you like the Family Circle/Four Mints bag. Also NOLA master Willie Tee's first and best LP (including the masterpiece "Bring on the heartaches"), the Whatnauts' best album (and that's saying a lot!), Carla Whitney's now very scarce Canada only LP and classic items from Tommie Young and Syl Johnson (US orig of "Dresses too short").

Among  the 45s we find Gene Chandler's Chicago 60s monster "I can take care of myself", Douglas & Lonero's crossover favorite "Don't let yourself get carried away", more great crossover from The Players ("Why did I lie") and Whatnauts ("Make me your slave"), plus a heap of Swedish 45s with exclusive picture sleeves.

On to the blues then. Evergreen titles from pillars of the scene, including Robert Johnson's "King of the delta blues singers", Champion Jack Dupree's "Cabbage greens", Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated and Screaming Jay Hawkins' beyond green "I put a spell on you".

Iggy, The Stooges and Velvet Underground, The Doors, Led Zeppelin and MC5 are waving the American flag. The Union Jack is represented by groups like Small Faces, Pretty Things, The Who and Keef Hartley.

Modern Soul, Disco, House!

Hello again,

This Friday we turn our heads to modern soul, disco and house. Special mentions to top LPs from Karin Jones, Family Circle, Caress on P&P, the very rare Chosen Few mini album on Newman and William Stuckey's tough-to-find "Love of mine" (including the mellow groover "The first time"). Sweet soul/two step fans need to check the Stage Coach album for the full version of the monster slowie "When you left, you did me in".

Soul and disco 45s include the biggie "Keep you burning" from Shider Family Band (top copy), Serena Johnson's "All work and no play" and the all-time two step fave "Midnight lovers" by Passion, among modern soul classics by Winfield Parker, Bloodstone and Mellaa.

We also offer a good amount of house 12"s this time, both old school and more current titles, plus some sought-after re-edit 12"s from recent years. It was a delight to go back and listen to Robert Owens on the perennial "Bring down the walls", and made perfect sense when played after classic disco 12"s from George Duke and Chain Reaction ("Dance freak" does what it says - disco funk dynamite!).
